Philly CoderDojo @ BBC on 4/22/17

Hi Ninjas & Parents:

We’re excited to host our second session of Philly CoderDojo at Bethlehem Baptist Church next week, but before that time there are a few things we wanted to quickly go over. Look https://phillycoderdojo.com/ has gone live! You can go to our website for additional challenges, help understanding everything we cover in the Dojo and a great listing of events to get Ninjas additional exposure to STEM events in the Philadelphia area.

We have a new dojo format. We’re announcing 3 different learning opportunities for Ninjas to choose from: 1) Scratch, 2) Python and 3) HTML Web Development (short descriptions below). We’ll be following coderdojo.com curriculums in the form of PDFs (Sushi Cards). Mentors and Parents will be able to better help ninjas by previewing the Sushi Cards and help with coding. You have been emailed access to this website, please let us know if you have any difficulty accessing Sushi cards outlining pre-work, homework and future projects. Ninjas will need to select their coding path for 4/22 dojo:

A few reminders for Philly CoderDojo Saturday 4/22:

Just like school computer labs we won’t be allowing food or drinks near the computers, so make sure kids get a snack before we begin.

We’re going to get started right at 3pm, so please try to be on time. Again, if you have any issues setting up your child’s computer, we’ll be there at 2:30 to help people set up.

You will need to bring your laptop you with to the dojos. Please respond to this email if you will not have access (not shared with a brother or sister at the dojo) to a laptop to bring to the dojo. We will make arrangements for you to borrow one while you’re learning to code on Saturday.

A couple Items for our new ninjas: 1) here is our PCD Attendees Agreement. Philly CoderDojo Attendee Agreement Please review it and let us know if you have any concerns. 2) We’d like recruit a team of committed coding ninjas to develop project(s) that you will create yourself and work on in between dojos maybe including the summertime to be completed by year-end.

We’re all very excited by this new Sushi Card Curriculum. It will help everyone to progress more smoothly, and there are some very fun and cool projects contained in these cards.

Hope you had a joyful weekend. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you and your parents on 4/22.

Sincerely,

The Philly Coder Dojo Team
